Prevailing thoughts after watching Transformers Live-Action again….

I really do not want Michael Bay directing the sequel.

Vain hope, I know.

At the very least they should employ me as a story consultant – I’d fix the fuck-up in the fleshling: Cybertronian ratio for starters!

Also….

– less “names” popping onto the set to play redundant, useless characters

– more Cybertronian characterisation

– better aesthetic distinction between the Decepticon charas

– less Bay slo-cam bullshit

– less Bourne-esque wobble-cam bullshit during key scenes

– less Bay “humour” involving non-Witwicky human charas

Good thing Stephen Spielberg provides considerable quality control. Some may criticize the bursts of sentiment in his works, but the man certainly possesses a handle on storytelling and evoking wonder. I wonder if he had a major hand in the Autobot arrival sequence and the Witwicky scenes.

Also, the direct and indirect digs made against America’s ideological enemies throughout the film amused me in light of the whole 300 controversy. Good to see America’s progressed from the Cold War days of the G1 cartoon – haha!

Thinking of things the aught to do… Obviously they need Megatron back, which is AKWARD; they totally messed that one up. I’d probably run a Galvatron thing, throw in some crazy explanation about the allspark not actually destroying Megatron but reviving him.
It’d be nice to run some Decepticon plots from the tv show to enhance their character depth. Perhaps the Shockwave thing, or the Starscream and Jetfire one could be explored.
We need Devestator! Since Jazz is out we need Blaster… if we get Blaster, Soundwave too! Some triple changers mayhap.. Blitzwing?

When I saw Transformers, whenever a new Autobot appeared onscreen, I’d hear people whispering stuff like “Who the fuck is that supposed to be?” then the name would appear onscreen and the audience would cheer.
When I went to see Across The Universe, and the people in front of us cheered and laughed and applauded at every single Beatles reference in the movie, as if these are easter eggs rather than the entirety of the film’s content.
I like the idea of bringing stuff like Transformers and Die Hard back, but first and foremost, I want a good movie. I don’t need a film to jerk me off and remind me that this franchise used to be cool or make sure to include an obvious cameo for every single character from the original series. I felt like Transformer’s script had too many responsibilities and the story didn’t really have many opportunities to breath.
